things will not always go as planned

First Lesson of 2017

Things. Will. Not. Always. Go. As. Planned.

My first lesson and reminder for 2017. We had planned to go to Atlanta for a weekend filled with laughter, family, good food, and a countdown into the new year.

Instead we were on my couch in Charlotte, watching Zootopia, with our wine glasses filled of Ginger Ale. Disappointed I was, because I’d been longing for a well planned & exciting New Years Eve. Each year I had so many expectations for this one day, thinking that it would ultimately set the tone for the rest of the year.

But then it hit me…. even though the stomach virus had got the best of my brother and I;  I was sitting in my nice cozy apartment, bringing in a new year, with those very close to my heart.

What a blessing that is! I was safe, healthy (despite the bug I encountered) , and in a room filled with love. I wouldn’t want it any other way.

Gratitude can turn any negative situation positive. I’m choosing  gratitude over pessimism in 2017!

Is your 2017 off to a good start? I’d love to hear in the comments below!

  1. I feel you! I was excited to see my best friend over the new year but then I had to study so we never met up. I was disappointed but I remembered it’s not about where I am that sets the tone for the year, but moreso my mindset and attitude. I wish I was with friends but studying into the new year set the stage for me to have a productive and focused year.
